A significant drop in flight searches to the US
28 April 2025Since the beginning of Donald Trump’s new presidential term in January 2025, we’ve observed a notable decline in global flight searches to the United States across Trabber’s international platforms (excluding the U.S. itself).

Data shows a clear shift in traveler interest, suggesting that political climate and international perception have a direct impact on tourism.
Global searches lose momentum
When we look at aggregate search data from all countries where Trabber operates, the trend is consistent. The percentage of flight searches directed toward U.S. destinations has been steadily decreasing since Trump returned to office:
- January 2025: -8.83% compared to January 2024
- February 2025: -20.97%
- March 2025: -12.89%
- April 2025: -32.25%
These are year-over-year drops in the share of searches directed at the U.S., despite stable or growing overall search volumes on our platforms.
What’s behind the decline?
While it’s difficult to pinpoint a single cause, the timing strongly suggests that political factors are at play. The new administration’s stricter immigration policies, more confrontational tone, and declining international image may be deterring many travelers from considering the U.S. as a destination—whether for tourism or business.
This trend comes even as the U.S. dollar weakens, which would typically make travel to the country more attractive from a financial standpoint.
At the same time, travelers today have more choices than ever. Destinations in Latin America, Europe, and Asia are becoming increasingly appealing. And with growing social awareness around responsible tourism, many are thinking twice about where they spend their travel budgets.
Travel trends in a changing world
In a connected world like ours, it’s no surprise that travel trends can be influenced by what’s happening on the global stage. What we’re seeing on Trabber hints that political changes might be having an effect—even in a space like tourism, where you might not expect it at first glance.
We’ll continue to follow how this trend develops over time, curious to see whether the unique cultural and travel experiences the U.S. offers start to regain traction with travelers around the world.
